Los Angeles, Cal.,

Dear Mother,
I have just about finished up a very bad cold. I have had it for four weeks. We have had nice warm weather the whole time. Was 81 today. They have days as warm as this every month of the year.
I don’t know where to send this so I will send it Alliance. None of you ever say where you will be two weeks ahead. I didn’t know Alma’s address all summer so she can’t blame me for not writing. I was just crazy to write.
I have been very busy. My office work has occupied my time during the day and most of the rest of my time was taken up by Miss S Margaret Clarke. You see we have been trying to find out if we liked one another. We have decided that we do. Isn’t that dear of us. She has been an orphan ever since she was a young child. She was raised by some aunts in Mobile. She came out here on a visit and while out here found that she would have to make her own living and learned the millinery business. She is head designer at “The Marvel”. She has brown hair, blue eyes, is about 5 ft 2 in. tall, weighs about 120. She likes horses and dogs but does not care for cats.
She has been living at the Hotel Fremont, where I am staying, for about 5 years. We have been seated beside one another at the table. The engagement is a family secret. Don’t let anyone know except Alma, Laura, Eva and Fred.
Have been trying to get a kodak picture of her to send you. Will send one if I get a chance.
Am sending check for $150.00.
With love and kisses,
Will.

She is head designer at “The Marvel”.
I couldn’t find anything about The Marvel. Not surprising.
She likes horses and dogs but does not care for cats.
Will must have been very much in love if it was OK with him that Margaret did not care for cats.
She has been living at the Hotel Fremont, where I am staying, for about 5 years.
Hotel Fremont - probably the Fremont Hotel. Wikipedia says:
The Fremont Hotel was a hotel in the Bunker Hill suburb of Downtown Los Angeles, California. Situated at 401 South Olive Street on the southwest corner of Fourth and Olive streets, the hotel opened in September 1902 on California Admission Day and closed in the 1940s. The hotel was demolished in 1955.
