1.
Barbara notes:
Dad had this bible but gave it to Kay when she stopped at our home one time. No idea if it’s at her old home now, not here.
I figure Laura had it after Papa Charles died. Bill and his family lived in Pittsburgh, the closest of The Next Generation to Canton, so he would have ended up with it when Laura died.
2.
Jane Gracey Provines, Dec. 17, 1900, at 921 W. 9th St., Canton, O, of Acute Indigestion.
I give this a mention in:
1901-02-12: ARTICLE FEATURING PAPA CHARLES AND GRANDMA PROVINES
Meanwhile, the local paper said she died of heart failure:
1900-12-19 OBITUARY FOR GRANDMA PROVINES
3.
Eugéne Stoky - surely it should be Eugène? And if Papa Charles was a teacher of languages, surely he should know that? Perhaps his brother actually spelled it Eugéne. Also, we've got some siblings spelling Stokey without the e, which is echoed in Papa Charles's Civil War military records - see:
1899-02-25&28 PAPA CHARLES'S CIVIL WAR ARMY RECORD
4.
* 1 mile E. I’m having trouble finding the asterisk that this refers back to, but I figure all the Milton babies were born in the same place.
5.
**2.30 a.m. of mean local Sun time
I totally do not understand this. Wikipedia says:
Solar time is a calculation of the passage of time based on the position of the Sun in the sky. The fundamental unit of solar time is the day, based on the synodic rotation period. Traditionally, there are three types of time reckoning based on astronomical observations: apparent solar time and mean solar time (discussed in this article), and sidereal time, which is based on the apparent motions of stars other than the Sun.
And elsewhere there is:
To determine Lst, multiply the difference in time between local standard clock time and Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) by 15°. This relationship comes from the fact that the sun takes 4 minutes to traverse 1° of longitude. Thus, if your local standard clock is 1 hour behind GMT then LST is 15°.
Again: I do not understand. But it fits in with Papa Charles’s weather interest.
6.
There's a list of Papa Charles's siblings that were still alive at the time in the obituary for his sister Jennie:
1903-07-24 OBITUARY MENTIONING PAPA CHARLES
