Kathleen is in Leigh-on-Sea visiting Farmer relatives.
I assume that Melissa M is a school friend. I don't think we ever hear from her again, but I'm grateful to her for telling us that Kathleen collected postcards - for however short or long a time.

Dear Kathleen,
Perhaps you would like to add this to your collection. We are having a lovely time. Bathing everyday. Daddy + I rode down here on the tandem (65 miles). Started at 6 + arrived here at 3, spending 2 hrs. on the road mending punctures. There is going to be a Regatta here tomorrow. Daddy + I went by boat to Felixstow today. Hope you are having a nice time.

“Coombe Cottage”
16 Naze Park Road
Walton-on-Naze.
Wikipedia says:
Walton-on-the-Naze is a seaside town on the North Sea coast. It is part of the parish of Frinton and Walton, in the Tendring district in Essex, England. The town is located north of Clacton and south of the port of Harwich; Frinton-on-Sea lies to the south of the town. The town has a population of 12,054, according to the 2011 census; in 1931, the parish had a population of 3,071. The town attracts many visitors; The Naze and the pier are the main attractions.
and:
"Naze" derives from Old English næss "ness, promontory, headland". In 1722 Daniel Defoe mentions the town calling it "Walton, under the Nase".
The Naze is a peninsula north of the town. It is important for migrating birds and has a small nature reserve. The marshes of Hamford Water behind the town are also of ornithological interest, with wintering ducks and Brent geese. Many bird watchers visit at migration times.
Of course the nature reserve probably wasn't in existence in 1905, and Melissa doesn't seem interested in birds, but it sounds nice.
Daddy + I rode down here on the tandem (65 miles). Started at 6 + arrived here at 3, spending 2 hrs. on the road mending punctures.
From 6am to 3pm is 9 hours. Subtract 2 hours for mending punctures, and you get 65 miles / 7 hours for an average of about 9.29 miles per hour on the tandem bike. What a lovely Edwardian picture: father and daughter on a bicycle built for two! Except for the punctures.
There's a woman with a bike in the middle right-hand side of the postcard picture.
