In this May 14 letter we have sadness about Fred's first wife, Mabel, who had died on May 6, and joy about Will's and Kathleen's first child, Billy, who was born on April 19.

My dear Eva,
You must be thinking that I am never going to write to you again, but really the small person consumes a good deal of time. Thank you very much indeed for your letter. I was so very pleased to get it. Will has had a letter started to you for weeks but I do not believe he has ever mailed it. He has really been very busy lately examining applicants for the Officers Reserve Corps and doing other “war work”. Today he went to Columbus and will be away several days so the house seems somewhat empty.
William Junior is flourishing. He is very like his Daddy except that his eyes are blue, but then they may change color. Margaret is very fond of him and likes to brush his hair. She is very full of life and spirits nowadays, looks well and is growing. Somehow she seems so much bigger since the arrival of “little brother”. As soon as Will has a little more spare time I am going to get him to print some pictures he took of Margaret in the snow.
I hope you are planning to come here during your summer vacation, and this time we want you for a good long visit and not a short one like you gave us last year. Unless Will is ordered away we shall be here all the summer. He said the other day that there was to be no leave for officers.
I was so very sorry to hear about Mabel. When she visited you I was wishing it had been possible for her to come over here for a change, now I hope that Fred will come. It would be good for him to see his Mother + Will.
We are all well here, although of course your Mother feels sad about Mabel. I felt as if I knew her as I had heard so many of her letters.
Thank you again ever so much for all the pretty things you sent our baby, all so dainty and useful. His Aunts have been so very good to him. I really think it was you who decided his name. I could not make up my mind on the subject.
I have so many letters to write that I must get to another. We shall look forward to seeing you.
With much love,
Kathleen

1.
Written on the envelope is:
Arrived June 19th
The letter is addressed to 1719 Green Street. I suspect that it should have been 1715 Green Street, and that that was the reason for the delay.
2.
The postmark is May 19, five days after the date of the letter. I figure Kathleen was being run ragged by little Margaret (age four and a half) and baby Billy (age just under one month).
3.
William Junior is flourishing.
In the end, the baby was not exactly William Junior; he was William Farmer Stokey instead of William Provines Stokey.
4.
We are all well here, although of course your Mother feels sad about Mabel. I felt as if I knew her as I had heard so many of her letters.
So Mama Margaret is currently staying with Will and Kathleen. There's a confirmation of that in a May 19 letter from Will that I haven't yet uploaded.
Fred's first wife, Mabel, had died on May 6.
5.
I really think it was you who decided his name. I could not make up my mind on the subject.
Will and Kathleen always seemed to be baffled by having to choose a name for a baby.
