MISSION FOLKS: ~ABOUT THEM~---document-links---pictures---related pages---site navigation
This page covers Mission Board people in the US and Canada, fellow missionaries, and the Woodsides (family of Fred's first wife, Mabel). At the moment it's pretty much a pigeonhole page. I'd like to write more about the missionaries that Fred worked with, but I'm not in any great hurry.
There were several different stations in Angola. I'd like to put in a map showing where they were...someday.
The Simangos and the McDowells have separate non-family pages.
A beginning of a list of the people, divided into Africa and the Americas, but otherwise not yet in any particular order:

A beginning of a list of the people, divided into Africa and the Americas, but otherwise not yet in any particular order:
In Canada and the US:
- Effie A. Jamieson on the Woman's board in Canada. Did not like Fred. At all. (He didn't like her, either.)
- Dr. Jesse H. Arnup on the general mission board in Canada. (Not surprisingly, the men's part of the mission was the default, and the woman's part was the separate part.)
- Mark H. Ward MD in Boston. Liked Sibyl. Seemed like a very nice guy.
In Africa:
- Mary Hurlbut, stationed in Dondi - a teacher, I think. Came out to Portugal on the same ship as Sibyl. A good friend to Sibyl and Fred.
- Elizabeth Read, a teacher, stationed in Chissamba with Sibyl. Also known as Tin Lizzie or T.L.
- Mr. and Mrs. Prior were stationed in Dondi. Mrs. Prior was a nurse. Was it Prior or Pryor?
- Dr. Sanders was W.H. Sanders was a missionary of long standing, the mission's Umbundu language expert, stationed in Camundongo. Mabel had notes of his on Umbundu. There was also a Mrs. Sanders.
- Dr. John Taylor Tucker and Mrs. Tucker. He wrote a book called Drums in the Darkness. She had a baby in about January 1928, I think. He wrote a book called Drums in the Darkness, which I found online, though I haven't read it so far: missiology.org.uk/pdf/e-books/tucker-john-t/drums-in-the-darkness_tucker.pdf
- Miss Clark was Edith Clark, stationed in Dondi.
- Mr. and Mrs. Childs were stationed in Bailundo, I think. Their son Walter Roy was born 1/12/1927.
- Miss Rawlings - I don't have much about her at this time.
- Sid Dart and Mrs. Dart, and their son Francis.
- Mrs. Webster was Marion Murchie Webster. She came with her husband, Dr. Henry Ardell Webster, in 1887, and is mentioned in an 1893 article that I have yet to upload, which also mentions Mabel.
- Rev. and Mrs. Steed were J Arthur Steed and Edith Tilney Steed, in Africa in 1927. Chissamba, I think.
- Mr. and Mrs. McAllester were in Sachikela in 1927. She was named Esther.
- Dr. Mary Cushman - Mary Floyd Cushman, in Angola from 1922 to 1953. She has a Wikipedia article about her, and in 1944 she published a book, Missionary Doctor: The Story of Twenty Years in Africa.
- Mr. Bell - In Angola in 1927. I haven't anything on him but it seems to me his name occasionally pops up, so maybe I'll figure out a little more.
- Dr. Hollenbeck - Another person that I need to keep an eye out for.
