Dear Mother,

I found out also that there are no round trip tickets out here.  In the spring they have colonists rates with no return trip.  They are usually from March 15 to April 15 but the date for them this year has not been fixed.  Neither has the fare.  Last year it was $57.50.  As the regular fare now is 68.90, it is not worth waiting so long for such a small difference.

I think I gave you about all the information that I have about travelling unless it is to take a cup of some sort with you.  They are not allowed to have common (for everybody) drinking cups on interstate trains now, and I imagine it is cheaper to have your own than to get one from the porter.

I made some cleansing cream once by mixing oil of sweet almonds with theatrical cold cream.  I forget what proportions I used but add enough oil of sweet almonds to the cold cream to make it very soft.  I think the theatrical cold cream is about the same as the other but cheaper.

If you haven’t noticed it already, I will kindly invite your attention to your large granddaughter.  It was taken last Sunday (Jan. 19)  She weighed 5lbs 12 ½ oz. then.  I had one other that turned out all right but didn’t get an extra print yet.  It was taken when she was asleep and from further away.

I expect to try to get some more pictures when I go down to-morrow.  I am anxious to get a graflex camera now that I have such an active subject.  The cost is what is bothering me.  I suppose I will get around that by getting a second-hand one.

I am writing the information about how to get along in case I miss you at the depot.

Am thinking of sending Alma some ripe olives by parcels post.  If they come, I hope she will not be disappointed with the contents of her package.

Maggie was born on November 7, so on January 19th she was 73 days old.
