Ruth was a devout Christian Scientist, but she still enjoyed a service by the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Dear K. I hope the wire reached out + was of some use. We heard a lovely service by the Archbishop of Canterbury on Sunday. We got up at a ¼ to 5 on Monday + got the whole thing. Then we got a Radio at school and heard the King’s speech at 20 to 2. That was fine tho it was a poor radio. All those countries calling. We were unable to get Kiplings. On Thurs at 5.40 a.m. the King makes an address to the House of Commons. I do not know if we shall try for that. It is our school picnic day but I am not going to it.
It is quite warm here.
Bestest love Aunt Ruthie.

1.
May 7, 1935 was a Tuesday.

I don't understand this. They heard it on Sunday, and got the whole thing on Monday?
3.
Then we got a Radio at school and heard the King’s speech at 20 to 2.
On May 6, 1935, the 25th anniversary of his accession, King George V gave a speech to The Empire. I listened to it on YouTube, and was moved - all the more so when I thought of what lay ahead in the years to come.
4.
We were unable to get Kiplings.

As an indication of his views of the Nazis, less than one year before his death Kipling gave a speech (titled "An Undefended Island") to The Royal Society of St George on 6 May 1935 warning of the danger which Nazi Germany posed to Britain.
5.
George V ascended to the throne shortly after Annie, Ruth, and Kathleen came to the US. I assume that the decision to move the family to the US was largely made by Ruth's father, though he surely would have listened if the family had been solidly against it. Still, there Ruth was, 25 years later, feeling, I'm sure, that George V was still her king.
