Fred didn't mail this letter, but Sibyl found it in June after they were married and sent it to Alma along with another letter to Alma that Fred failed to mail.

Dondi Apr 20, 1928
Dear Alma,
I am back in Dondi for a while but will be going to Chissamba next week. It is two months since I was there and the mails come but twice a week. Mr. Childs is over here for the Educational Committee meeting. It is his first trip since his sickness. He is getting heavy.
He is 6 ft 4 ½ inches tall and weighed 160 so that a month in bed with little or no food for most of the time made him look like the living skeleton.
I have been on foot for so long that I have gotten out of the habit of riding. The motorcycle is in shape for traveling so I will take the chance next week. The roads are dry now. There has been no rain for a week and the dry season winds are blowing.
This should reach you nearly time for your birthday but cannot be much of a birthday letter.
Dart’s “Whippet” is at the coast and he is going down for it on the Monday train. We are anxious to see how it performs. John, better known as “Buster” is an expert at recognizing cars. He is only 2 ½ years old but can name any car he sees in the magazines. Nobody else knows how he does it but he never misses. He recognizes all the autos and motorcycles in the mission by the sound of the engine and announces the arrival before the rest are sure who is coming.
Our swimming pool is getting to be very popular. Bathing suits are at a premium. We swim in a pool about 300 meters from my front door. The water does not get very cold even in the dry season.
