The Canadian mission board responds to Sibyl's announcement of her engagement to Fred. It's not exactly a heart-warming letter.

Miss Sibyl Hosking,
Missao Evangelica,
Catabola, Bie, Angola,
Africa, Via Lisbon.
Dear Miss Hosking :
I was very glad to get your letter with its interesting news of the work at the Hospital, and also your personal news. I do hope that you will be very happy in the new life opening before you.
The matter of your engagement was brought before the Executive of our Woman's Board yesterday, and I was asked to convey to you the best wishes of the members, and also to say to you that after careful consideration, and in view of the importance of the work to which you were commissioned and which is now in your charge, we feel that we must ask you to remain at Chissamba until relieved by the arrival of Dr. and Mrs. Strangways.
The appointment of a Missionary to a field implies a joint contract and the assuming of a mutual responsibility, and I am sure you will see this and be more happy than if you dropped your work before some one else was ready to take your place.
The plans for our future movements are not yet made, but we are hoping to see you before long, and it will be a great joy to see the work we have loved for so many years.

No sign of "Wow, you're getting married! Congratulations! I'm so glad that your work for us led you to find your true love!" Nope. Not here.
