This is one of three letters all written in Atlanta by Maggie (age 21), Kay (age 15), and Roger (age 13) on the same day, to their father Will, who was in Houston, Texas, hoping to strike oil on some land that he had bought.
Maggie knows her father will be interested in the music.

Monday
Dear Daddy,
We had a letter and a card from you today, and I am very sorry that the Humble well has not done so well. Does that mean that there is absolutely no hope for your land? I certainly hope not.
We haven't been doing much. I am still teaching and the other day a Sarah Odeum called up and wanted to take lessons. She is a friend of Lois Ewings and paying a (very) little. Did you know I was teaching Mrs. Lackland? She is worse than the kids about getting excited when playing at a lesson.
This morning a man came and I don't know just exactly what he wanted but he asked for you + wanted you to serve a paper sent by a Mrs. Campbell at Houston or a sheriff acting for him, he wouldn't tell me anything and said you must be seen personally + said his firm would send it back to the Houston attorney and locate you there. This may not be exactly it but what I gatherered for he wouldn't say anything except when you would be back + didn't want your Houston address.
I must go up to the store now to post this letter. The other day I got one of the contest solos for my group - the Symphonique Etudes of Schumann and it is about 43 pages long + horn too.
It has been cooler here lately with slight rain.
Lots of Love,
Margaret

Maybe when I read some more of Maggie's letters I'll understand about this.
