In the family we're all terribly impressed that Aunt Alma got a PhD in 1908. And it is indeed impressive.
But her bachelor's degree was also impressive. Whereas Alma arrived at the University of Chicago in 1905 with recommendations from respected professors at Oberlin College, when she went to Oberlin in 1899 as a twenty-two-year-old freshman, she was nobody, scrounging for money, taking a year off after her freshman year to save enough money for her sophomore year, worried that she'd have to take another year off after sophomore year to save enough money for her junior year. At the beginning it was by no means a sure thing that she would ever make it through to her degree.
That's what I think of when I see that Alma saved this program. The Oberlin degree meant a lot to her.

Alma always was pleased when she used stationery with letterheads for her letters. I'll bet she loved that nice "Miss Alma Gracey Stokey" card.
I'm adding this to Clara's related documents because she too was in the Class of 1904.
