Will in Atlanta is taking care of the children while Kathleen's away in Savannah helping her parents and her sister because her nearly-80-year-old father is ill. So here are ordinary details of life in the Stokey home.

Dear Kathleen
It is nearly 5PM. Margaret is staying at Agnes Scott to night, as the new Black Friars are putting on a show. I think there is a banquet too. Margaret is to be a taxi driver. She called up the Black and White people and they said they would let her have a suit. I took her down this morning and they fitted her out with a complete new suit and cap. It took so long I had to take her on out to Ag.Sc. I was on my way to the post to get some gas and commissaries and Oh yes, the bees. I had no trouble getting them back as Mr. Heath had put a wire screen over the entrance. They are now under the China berry trees. The screen is not entirely off but only a little at one end but they can get out and are getting busy.
The children hardly had a chance to see them before they all had to go to Missys. Roger has just returned after about a 2-hour session including the going and coming. He is out looking at the bees.
I think one of Eddie Cantor's jokes might cheer up Father. I didn't hear it but it was something like this:
Jimmy Why Eddie why are you wearing mourning?
Eddie Oh for my poor uncle.
Jimmy Well I am very sorry. What was the matter?
Eddy He worked for 16 days on a jig saw puzzle and when it was finished and he found it was Hitler's face he committed suicide.
I think Father might enjoy hearing of this casualty among the Jews. At least it amused Pickle.
I think Margaret's idea of your meeting us in Macon is very good. It will give you more time in Savannah and less traveling.
Was certainly surprised and pleased to hear your voice over the phone last night. Your letters came to-day. I think you had better stay until Father picks up more strength. We are getting along very well except that we don't get many green vegetables eaten. We have had a good many eggs. The chickens have been laying better and I have bot [???] 3 doz viz 1 doz @15¢ and 2 doz at 10¢. All very good and fresh. We have sent some of our own to Missy. Margaret is very liberal with her deserts. She has made gingerbread with chocolate frosting (?) twice, and 3 lemon pies yesterday.
Am enclosing two blank checks so that you can have one in reserve.
It was a little cool Friday morning and again on Saturday and we had a little fire in the furnace.
Billy took the book down to Miss Hull (?) as per Mrs. Long's request when I talked to her over the phone. Kathleen said she would tell Miss Askew. She went out again in such a hurry that I forgot to ask her about it when she came home.
With lots of love to all,
Will

1.
It is nearly 5PM. Margaret is staying at Agnes Scott to night, as the new Black Friars are putting on a show.
Agnes Scott was the college that Maggie was attending. Wikipedia says:
Agnes Scott College is a private women's liberal arts college in Decatur, Georgia. The college enrolls approximately 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The college is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church and is considered one of the Seven Sisters of the South. It also offers co-educational graduate programs.
I don't know anything about the new Black Friars, except that they did a performance during the festivities when Maggie graduated.
1935-05-18 INVITATION TO EVA TO MAGGIE'S COLLEGE GRADUATION
2.
The children hardly had a chance to see them before they all had to go to Missys.
Who is Missy? 4/10/1933 was a Monday, but that doesn't help me. Maybe someday I'll find out.
3.
I think Father might enjoy hearing of this casualty among the Jews.
Hitler had become Chancellor of Germany just a few months before, on January 30, 1933.
I like the relationship between Will and his father-in-law, with jokes shared. And I even like the joke. But I wish Will hadn't thought to himself, "Oh, the joke is because Eddie Cantor's Jewish."
4.
At least it amused Pickle.
Pickle was Kay. Later in the letter Will calls her Kathleen. At this point, nobody was calling her Kay yet.
5.
Will's got chickens and bees. A bucolic-sounding retirement for him in the middle of Atlanta.
