OHIO FOLKS: ~ABOUT THEM~---document-links---pictures---related pages---site navigation
This is the page for miscellaneous people whom the Stokeys originally knew in Ohio. At various times there were various Stokeys in three areas of Ohio, accumulating friends:
Non-miscellaneous Ohio people, who have pages of their own, are:
People on this page include people in Canton, Oberlin, and Cincinatti:
- Canton, which is in eastern Ohio, not too far from Pittsburgh. The Five Stokey Siblings grew up there. Laura stayed there for the rest of her life.
- Oberlin, in northern Ohio. Alma, Fred, and Eva went to school there. Fred met his first wife, Mabel, there. Mama Margaret moved there, with Fred and Eva, in 1904, the year of Alma's graduation from Oberlin.
- Cincinnati. Will and Kathleen were there from 1916 to 1923, with a break in 1918-1919 when Will was assigned by the Army to San Antonio, Texas.
Non-miscellaneous Ohio people, who have pages of their own, are:
- The Bradens: NON-FAMILY: THE BRADENS
- Steenie (Abastenia St. Leger Eberle) and Lily Love: NON-FAMILY: MABEL, LIL, STEENIE, AND ORESTES
- Clara Jones: NON-FAMILY: CLARA JONES
- Anne Starr: NON-FAMILY: ANNE STARR
People on this page include people in Canton, Oberlin, and Cincinatti:
Starting in Canton - other than the Bradens, Steenie, and Lily Love:
The Eberle family - Steenie's family.
The Love family - Lily's family. I think there's just one mention, of Lily's father.
The Bidwells, including Eva's friend Florence.
June Bracken or Brocken - The Stokeys knew her in Canton, and it sounds as though she went with them when they moved to Oberlin.
There's a document page on this website for an article about Papa Charles in a 1904 book:
1904 STARK COUNTY BIOGRAPHICAL COMPENDIUM: PAPA CHARLES'S ENTRY
There's also an article in that book, which I didn't include on that page, about the Bidwells.

Starting at Oberlin - other than Clara Jones and Anne Starr:
Sara Grant Laird - an Oberlin friend, maybe a roommate of Alma's at Oberlin.
Eunice Miller - not a close friend, I think, but she was from Massachusetts and attended the 1916 Oberlin reunion in Boston that Alma attended. An Oberlin alumni magazine from 1946 says:
Miss Eunice A. Miller of Boston has recently retired from State Service in Massachusetts after 35 years. One of her associates writes that “she has done a most outstanding job in the field of social work.”
Mary Elizabeth Rodhouse Creglow - Oberlin Class of 1905. Visited Fernbank in 1934, and we have a couple of pictures of her.

Cincinnati
Miss Attie - she keeps cropping up. She visited Woods Hole in 1923, though she didn't stay at Fernbank, and she was helpful in Mama Margaret's final days in May 1924.
And various other names. Ross. Who else? Ottermann?
