Writing on a Monday after school, Billy could think of more to write about in a thank you letter to his Aunt Eva than he could on Sunday when he was writing a thank you letter to his Aunt Alma.
Thank you very much for the tie and handkerchiefs. I appreciate very much your kindness in sending them.
We have been having bad weather for the last month.
A little over a week before Christmas we had a sleet storm, and the next morning the ground was covered with ice. That was about the most snow (or ice) that we have had since we came to Atlanta.
We had three weeks in which it was cloudy every day. One morning it was clear for a short time but by the middle of the afternoon it was cloudy again.
I am taking French at school and we are reading “Les Miserables.” I like it the best French story that I have read.
I was in a debate this morning, the subject of which was “Resolved, that the Panama Canal is evidence of the desirability of Government ownership.” Our side (the affirmative) won. The other side had only two speakers to our four. As these were not very well prepared we had a rather easy time.
In a chess tournament at school I came out fourth out of five. At first I tied for third place, but when we played off the other boy won the game.
I hope that you had a Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year.
