WILLIAM P. STOKEY (STOKES)...CANTON, OHIO.
Serg't, B.A,; Football team '98
"So I have seen a King on chess,
With here and there a pawn."
Shy as a lily and modest as a daisy. For years has been persecuted and beckoned by the girls, who love him and worship him from afar. He has persisted in a seclusion which suggests but one solution -- prospective and early matrimony: the idea being that his infinite love is not for many sweethearts, but for only one. Is getting bald and will very probably die of embarrassment.

1.
Serg't, B.A,; Football team '98
This one year on the football team got sort of exaggerated in a home town article about Will:
1900-06-19 NEWSPAPER ITEM ABOUT WILL
2.
So I have seen a King on chess,
Will liked chess. I don't understand what this quote meant to Will, but I'm sure he chose it himself.
3.
The tone is jocular, as is the tone of all the entries in this yearbook, but it indicates to me that Will knew he couldn't afford to get married until his siblings had finished their educations and were more able to support themselves.
And Will's already starting to go bald!
