Kathleen Farmer Stokey's father is 79 years old. He is still working. He is still vigorous, enterprising, and extroverted. A voyage to England is obviously no difficulty for him.
He is also still an active Christian Scientist, 25 years after his admission into the Mother Church in Boston.

London - the 1st city in the world.
July 18, 1932.
Dearest Daughter:
I have ordered the water color paper + the three Books.
Not heard from Gibbes but have written him nonetheless.
When Gibbes came here it was to seek + find gas works creosote he failed in his quest. I brought him to Kennard, but it seems as if he never opened his mind. I told Kennard of his mission, he at once jumped in got in contact with the largest gas works on the Thames + is now corresponding with Gibbes in an effort to bring sellers + buyers together. Won't it be funny if my chance word opens the way. Not funny to me, because I know how those things work + claim no credit for myself. If the price + terms come out right, it may mean very large transactions - Gibbes spoke of orders of one million gallons or more.
I have not much in the way of news to report.
Took Helen over to 7Oaks on Saturday being the closing day of her summer vacation especially to bring her up to young Jenny, + they proved very companionable so perhaps that was to be.
Emily is well inclined to CS: was to the service yesterday morning.
Lots of the stuff called love from
your own Daddy
I hope you take a good refreshing rest before next term. My love + regards to everybody.

1.
I have ordered the water color paper + the three Books.
Ruth, of course, was an artist and art teacher. It sounds as though, after over 20 years in Savannah, she still preferred the water color paper that she used to get when the family still lived in England.
2.
Took Helen over to 7Oaks on Saturday being the closing day of her summer vacation especially to bring her up to young Jenny, + they proved very companionable so perhaps that was to be.
I think Helen must be Helen Kathleen Farmer, who was WJ's niece, a daughter of WJ's brother Edwin. She lived from 1887 to 1964, so she was 45 at this time.
7Oaks was Sevenoaks, the town near London where WJ's Gray in-laws lived. Andrew Gray was the brother of Ann Gray Farmer, who was WJ's wife. Andrew's wife was named Jennie. There was a younger Jennie or Jenny - a daughter, I assume - who gets mentioned in a letter that Andrew wrote to Annie a few years later:
1935-08-18 LETTER FROM ANDREW GRAY TO ANN FARMER
Both Jennies are well, the junior still being at Arding + Hobbs.
3.
Emily is well inclined to CS: was to the service yesterday morning.
Emily might be Helen's mother, who probably died in 1940. CS is, of course, Christian Science.
4.
On the back of the page is written "Ruth". There's a letter from WJ to his wife from the same day, so I figure that both letters were sent in the same envelope.
5.
Kathleen and the two younger children, Kay and Roger, went to Savannah for a visit in August - see:
1932-08-08 LETTER FROM WILL TO ROGER
I don't know if he had returned to Savannah yet by the time of this letter.
