Here's the leave of absence that Will got when his mother died and he had to go to Cincinnati. It's back-dated, because Kathleen saw to getting it, and sent it with her May 10 letter to Will.

Kathleen mentioned requesting this leave in:I rang up Mr. Ahrens + Col. McManus. Col. McManus was very nice. I asked him to give you ten days leave as you said and he said it would be alright, and he was sorry about it all.
When Kathleen received this, she sent to Will in:Your leave notice came this morning + I will enclose it in this.
