Alma's not wasting even a second of her Christmas vacation.

Miss Anna Starr, professor of botany at Mt. Holyoke College, arrived in Elyria last week and is a guest of her sister, Mrs. George H. Lewis. In company with Miss Stokey, head of the department of botany at Mt. Holyoke, Miss Starr left for Columbus today, to be in attendance at the meetings of the American Association for the advancement of Science. Miss Stokey represents the college, and will present a paper on the subject of tree-ferns.

Alma didn't spend Christmas with Anne and Mrs. Lewis; rather she spent it with her friends Mabel and Lil in Philadelphia. See:

I'm surprised to learn that Alma was the head of Mount Holyoke's botany department at this time. My understanding is that she didn't get tenure until 1916.
The meetings at Columbus were when the Ecological Society of America was founded. We know from an obituary for Anne that she was a member. Alma's obituary doesn't mention it, but that doesn't mean she wasn't a member.
