Ft. McPherson, Ga.,
July 8, 1927.
Did you carry off the receipt for the tickets? I could not find it, but Mr. Powers telephoned down and got the trunk checked anyway. The check is enclosed.
I went to see Gen. C. about that matter. He had made it out himself. He said it was a matter of opinion and that he had put it down so, and that it didn't amount to anything. He based the leadership part on my not having called. I think on the other he said he had just seen me around. I think there were probably quite a few that got them. Col. Meyer showed me his. He had the "below average" in leadership and had written to find out why. He got a written answer that he had not made his social call on the commanding general. He thought it very queer, particularly after Gen. Hagood, who did not care much for the calls and had not returned his. When there were a number of reserve officers at the post for training he sent around word that he didn't want to be bothered by having them call.
I tried my cotton KK suit on and Colonel Danforth said it fitted as well as a cotton suit could. It certainly looked much better than it did that night you know I was quite hot and it stuck to me and did not slip into position on my shoulders. I am going to see if the spot will come out.
I hope you are having a pleasant trip. It is cool and cloudy here today. Had my hair cut. It took 15 minutes by the clock and the barber was quite careful as the shop was practically empty.
With lots and love and kisses
Will.

I went to see Gen. C. about that matter.
It sounds as though Will got a less than stellar performance review - or whatever it was called in 1927. Perhaps it contributed to his decision to retire the following spring. My mother said that Will (her father-in-law) absolutely hated the Army.

Is KK khaki?
