Papa Charles died on January 5, 1916, not on February 18 - see:

Who reported Papa Charles's death to the government? I figure it must have been Laura, and that...
- She didn't remember that the government needed to be notified (perhaps she didn't even know about the pension), and then...
- The February pension check arrived in the mail around maybe February 6, and so...
- She went looking for the January check and found it, and...
- On February 18 (a Friday) she brought the uncashed January and February checks back to the relevant government office, and...
- They simply wrote down that day's date as the date of Papa Charles's death.
