William P. Stokey Jr. has returned to Detroit, and Miss Margaret Stokey has returned to Chicago after spending the holidays with their parents, Colonel and Mrs. William P. Stokey, on Rockmont drive. Miss Kathleen Stokey, who is a senior at Radcliffe College, and Roger Stokey, who is a sophomore at Harvard, also spent the holidays with their parents, Colonel and Mrs. Stokey.
Bill was William F. Stokey, not William P. Stokey Jr., but the society page doesn't get it. I keep wondering if people reading the newspapers thought that Will wasn't a real colonel, but that rather "Colonel Stokey" was a courtesy title.
And I'd like to know more about what Maggie was doing in Chicago and what Bill was doing in Detroit. It shouldn't be too hard to find out about Bill. (Later note: I think maybe Maggie was working as a saleswoman for Barbizon. But I don't see any evidence of it in the family letters.)
Mostly, however, I'm just glad that all four of the kids were at home with their parents for Christmas. None of them knew it, but 1939 was the last Christmas for Kathleen - that is, for Will's wife Kathleen. The following Christmas would be much bleaker for Will and his children.
