Atlanta, Georgia
June 8, 1936

Dear Aunt Alma:

School is out and summer and its heat has taken control of Atlanta.  The heat is doubly felt because of the lack of rain.  To the best of my knowledge we have not had a total of 1/5 of an inch of rain.  Merely an occasional 1/100 of an inch.

I am attending a military summer school at Boys' High fom 8:30 - 11:30 A.M.  It will last thru July 3rd.  The school is conducted for those boys desiring to be officers and non commissioned officers.  At the close of school I was a corporal.  I hoping [torn paper so can't see what's there] to become an officer.  The school is hard work but fun.

Billy left this morning for Savannah, New York and Panama.

It looks as though we might have a small thundershower.  I hope so.

​I am reading The Three Musketeers for the second time.

I will close now, because of lack of time (Daddy is going to the mail) and for lack of news.

I hope you enjoy your year in India.

Roger sounds like Papa Charles. So I wonder if Roger was politely echoing of the sort of conversations he had heard among the grown-ups.

World War II is coming.

Billy left this morning for Savannah, New York and Panama.
Billy is 19 years old, so he must be in Naval ROTC.  I think he was at Georgia Tech.
