Dear Will,
This is the hottest day that I have experienced this year. Every person is complaining of the heat. I am glad we did not have to pass the summer here. We are all busy trying to get Eva’s trousseau ready for the eventful day. I am so glad you are going to try to get off then, I do hope you can be there. You know she has always said she was going to have you “give her away”.
Everything looks very beautiful here now. It is so nice and green. We have been doing our own cooking ever since we came back. This evening Eva and I went out to dinner. We both enjoyed it very much. We had just been having lunches so she said, Alma takes her dinner at the same Hall as last year. The kitten has made a host of friends here. It was quite a surprise they way they all took to him.
Sunday Eve
I was just thinking that it is getting to be as hard for me to write letters as it seems to be for you judging by the number you write. I have not been doing much writing lately. Eva says I will have to write to her every week as I used to. She and Alma are out walking. Alma’s visit up in New Hampshire did her a lot of good. She gained several pounds and seems more like herself - is not nervous like she was for a while on Corn Hill. Eva is going to New York Thursday to see about getting their furniture so they will have the flat ready by the time your friends come. I hope they will have a good time in New York.
We have not yet succeeded in finding a dress-maker to make the wedding dress, but hope to find one yet, or she may have to do like the couple you told us about down in Cuba.
When I commenced this letter we were having hot weather but now it is cold. So we have to use our oil stove. The girls have come and we are all going to have some tea to warm us up.
Eva told me of the nice compliment you paid me. You don’t know my dear boy, how pleased I was to know that you think I have a good disposition. I would rather hear that from you than from any other person. Papa used to tell me that and he hoped you children would inherit my disposition with his brains, I think you have the best disposition and poor Laura the worst, but her religion has helped her to overcome all that was ugly and disagreeable.
I always think of you as being almost ideal. Now that you are beginning to cultivate your spiritual nature I think you will reach the ideal. I hope you are still attending church as faithfully as on “the Cape”. I used to be something of a bigot thought the Methodist the only church but have outgrown that.
I must now close and get dressed. Write to me if you are not too busy.
With lots of love
from Mother.

1.
We are all busy trying to get Eva’s trousseau ready for the eventful day.
Eva was married to Frank Evans the following month, on October 16, 1909.
2.
Alma’s visit up in New Hampshire did her a lot of good. She gained several pounds and seems more like herself - is not nervous like she was for a while on Corn Hill.
I don't know anything about Alma's visit to New Hampshire. I don't know of anybody whom she knew in New Hampshire, but Alma knew lots of people. And I don't know anything about Alma being nervous.
Corn Hill was the area in Truro on Cape Cod where Alma rented a house for the family in the summer of that year.
3.
I think you have the best disposition and poor Laura the worst, but her religion has helped her to overcome all that was ugly and disagreeable.
How to throw your own daughter under the bus for all your descendants to see a century later.
4.
I always think of you as being almost ideal. Now that you are beginning to cultivate your spiritual nature I think you will reach the ideal.
Is there some boilerplate religious terminology that I'm missing here?
5.
I'm putting this into Frank Evans's related documents because even though he isn't specifically mentioned, he was going to be an essential part of the wedding they were getting ready for.
