We always knew in my nuclear family that Aunt Alma's birthday was on Bunker Hill Day. (My mother was pleased, when she married my father, that she now had a way of remembering which was Flag Day - June 14 - and which was Bunker Hill Day - June 17.) But it wasn't until I started working on these letters that I pegged Uncle Bill's birthday to Patriots Day.
Hurrah for Billy! Is that his name? He is a nephew after my own heart, following my good example. I hope that he will appreciate being born on Patriot’s Day as much as I do having been born on Bunker Hill Day. His birthday is a holiday in Massachusetts. He is somewhat ahead of me, for mine is a holiday only in Boston.
I have just made initials on two little towels for him and I hope to send them soon.
I wish I could see Margaret with her little brother. I am sorry that I have to miss that.
We are having a glorious spring day today - the warmest day of the season. We gathered our first wild flowers last week.
I have just made initials on two little towels for him and I hope to send them soon. What initials did she use? WS? At that point they had barely settled on a first name, let alone the middle name, which ended up being Farmer for his maternal grandfather rather than Provines to make him a Junior. Embroidering initials into towels and handkerchiefs was a standard thing to do back then. I never learned how.
