San Francisco, Cal.,
December 6, 1912.
Dear Eva,
This is just a short letter to let you know that you are not forgotten. I was very glad to hear that you and Frank are getting along so well, even if it is when you are not together. It certainly looks more as if you could get so you could get along when you are together. I think that if even one of you had science you would find it much easier, and if both of you had it, it would be no trouble at all. Margaret always said it was the cause of our being so happy. She said that one girl said that “If science has made all that change in Margaret Clarke, it is all right” and that the girl took it up. I don’t think Margaret was happy until she came into science.
I am sorry that I can’t read the book with you although I don’t think I would be very good at explaining it. I think that if you go to one of the Christian Science reading rooms, you will find that whoever is in charge will be glad to explain things to you and to tell you anything that you want to know.
Of course you can keep the book. I think is the one I gave Margaret when she gave me hers before we were married. If you should ever decide that you didn’t care for it, I would like to have it rather than have it go to someone who would take no particular interest in it.
Every Christian Science church, I think, has a testimonial meeting Wednesday night lasting about an hour. I think they are nearly always from 8:00 to 9:00. I would like to have you go to the next one to see if you are not interested. I think that at first you would find the Wednesday evening meetings more interesting than the Sunday services, although I am not trying to keep you away from the Sunday services.
Margaret’s birthday was on April 22. She was 31 on her last birthday. She didn’t like to tell when her birthday was and I always forgot it. I think she felt that it would look like an invitation, to tell when her birthday came.
Little Margaret is doing splendidly. She failed to gain any weight in the last two days but I don’t think that amounts to anything, because her weight will vary considerably on account of how much food she has in her. She gained 5 ounces in 4 days not long ago and then it was apparently at a standstill for 4 days after that.
She is a great deal more active than she was at first. Her color and temperature are good and she is having no trouble digesting her food. She scarcely ever cries even when she is being bathed.
I think she is going to be very much like her mother in every way, except that I am afraid she has my nose. I think though it looks less like mine now than when she was born. Her eyes look very dark, but of course they are blue.
I told mother to come out as soon as she could pack up, if she was so anxious to see her granddaughter. I would not be surprised to see her out here in a very few days.
I agree with you about Beethoven Sonats but they are a little hard for me. I have been trying them though.
I expect to send you a pamphlet to read. I hope to hear that you went to the testimonial meeting.
With worlds of love,
Will

It was more like a couple of months, but Mama Margaret did come out west to take care of baby Margaret.
Will apparently sent, along with this letter, a fragment of letter that his wife Margaret started writing to Eva shortly before her death:
