Margaret never runs out of things to say. It's admirable!

My dear Mother,
Your good letter received several days ago: first of all I want to thank you and the girls for the generous supply of silver. Will and I are very proud of it. I really intended writing you the day after the silver came to say thanks. When we unpacked the silver we got out all of our presents and played house: Will loves the Hepplewhite design. It certainly was dear of Mable to send me the centerpiece. I am very fond of Maderia embroidery, the fact of it coming from such a distance and from Fred’s sweetheart makes it very precious: I will write Mable very soon. It was thoughtful of you to send her address.
You spoke of baking apple dumplings. I know they were delicious.
I have about decided to take a course in domestic science also dressmaking.
Will and I have been discussing plans for next summer. Will has decided the trip will be too expensive, unless we can get excursion rates. He feels we will be stationed east before very long. My dear mother we are very anxious to come east and in the event we can come next summer you can decide upon the place. Will is in favor of Cape Cod. I know I would love it.
We are having very warm weather here. From September until December are the warmest months in the year. August and July are cold months.
I wish you could be here for Will’s birthday. I have ordered a platinum scarf pin with a small ruby for his birthday present. I gave the order while I was in Los Angeles to Brock and Feagans. They made his present last year. And a pair of gray dress gloves.
San Francisco was all excitement last week. President Taft was here for three days. They broke ground for the Panama Exposition of 1915. President Taft took the first spade of earth with a silver spade - the President is now in Los Angeles. Some one tried to dynamite his train between here and Santa Barbara.
Something is wrong with my pen so I will stop. My dear do not worry about next summer. I feel sure it will come about in the right way. Again many thanks for the silver. I am sending you worlds of love from Will and the same for my self.
Lovingly,
Margaret

Your good letter received several days ago: first of all I want to thank you and the girls for the generous supply of silver.
Does "the girls" include Laura? I'm assuming yes, and therefore putting this letter among Related Documents for all three of the Stokey sisters - Alma, Laura, and Eva.
2.
Will loves the Hepplewhite design.
Wikipedia says:
George Hepplewhite (1727? – 21 June 1786) was a cabinetmaker. He is regarded as having been one of the "big three" English furniture makers of the 18th century, along with Thomas Sheraton and Thomas Chippendale.

I am very fond of Maderia embroidery, the fact of it coming from such a distance and from Fred’s sweetheart makes it very precious: I will write Mable very soon.
From https://linoandaraujo.com/pages/about-madeira-embroidery
Madeira Embroidery is a premium centuries-old type of embroidery handmade in (and inspired by) the beautiful island of Madeira, Portugal. The fabrics used are linen, cotton, silk and organdie, and it's traditionally used in table, bed and bath linen, as well as in women and baby clothing. The (manual) process and very high quality bar for the finished pieces have remained the same for almost two centuries.
Mabel (who married Fred in 1912) went to Angola as a missionary in 1910. I assume that she did the required stop in Portugal to learn the Portuguese language, since Angola at that time was part of Portuguese West Africa. So I imagine she bought the embroidery centerpiece while she was in Portugal.

You spoke of baking apple dumplings. I know they were delicious.
I don't think I've seen this letter of Mama Margaret's that Margaret is responding to, but the talk of cooking certainly sounds like her.
5.
My dear mother we are very anxious to come east and in the event we can come next summer you can decide upon the place. Will is in favor of Cape Cod.
So Will liked the Truro house that Alma rented in 1909. I've mentioned that in the FERNBANK page. As it turned out, Will and Margaret did not come east in 1912. I daresay one reason was that Margaret was pregnant, although I don't think Will and Margaret told the family about it until August.

I have ordered a platinum scarf pin with a small ruby for his birthday present. I gave the order while I was in Los Angeles to Brock and Feagans.
Brock & Feagans sounds very fancy. I'm enjoying imagining Margaret there.
Los Angeles Herald article, 5 November 1907:
BROCK & FEAGANS ARE IN THEIR NEW QUARTERS
New Store Contains Finest Equipment of Any Jewelry Establishment in the United States and Canada
Brock & Feagans, the Jewelers, have moved into their new building at 437-441 South Broadway and have issued invitations to their formal opening, which will take place Monday and Tuesday, November 11 and 12. The hours each day will be from 2 until 5 o'clock.
The equipment of the new building is one of the finest In the United States and Canada. The woodwork is mahogany inlaid with holly. The wall and ceiling decorations are of the same quiet colors, harmonizing beautifully with the general color scheme throughout the room. Private booths have been installed for the display of loose diamonds, rest rooms have been provided and every other convenience customers might desire Is to be found.
There Is nine times as much space In the new quarters as there was In the old room in the Mason block, but even with this enlargement Messrs. Brock & Feagans find themselves unable to provide room for their splendid display of Jewelry and fine art ware.
They have added three new lines, the creations of the Tiffany studios of New of the Rookwood potteries and the Teco potteries. There are only nineteen agents for the Tiffany ware outside of New York, and the Los Angeles firm is the last one to receive such honor. The cut glass windows which adorn the rooms containing the Tiffany display were designed by the famous studios of the New York firm.

President Taft took the first spade of earth with a silver spade - the President is now in Los Angeles. Some one tried to dynamite his train between here and Santa Barbara.
Wikipedia says:
October 16 - Two men place dynamite on a railroad in California ahead of Taft's car. Security guard Abe Jenkins discovers the dynamite before the president arrives.

The Taft dates indicate that the Wednesday in question was October 18.
