Dear Mother,
Am waiting for the train to go back to S.F. I came up this morning to arrange about getting some land for our uncle (Sam) Will be going down to San Diego next Wednesday. I don’t care for trips now that I have M.

I came up this morning to arrange about getting some land for our uncle (Sam)
Uncle Sam must be the US government.

Will be going down to San Diego next Wednesday.
Will is still filling in for the ailing head of the Los Angeles area of the Army Corps of Engineers.

Will went to Stockton several times. There are mentions of it in the following documents:
