This is the end of the option for Fred and Sibyl to go elsewhere in Africa to do missionary work after they left the Angola mission. It's so nice to get something definite on the subject. How often does that happen?
A few lines to tell you how terribly disappointed I am to hear that you have decided not to come out to the field, I had so looked forward to the work during the next term with you as a co-worker and companion. On the other hand with so much uncertainty attached to P.E.A. work and we who are here know how trying it is, I cannot say that I altogether blame you, for trying to settle down when there is a good opening where you and Doctor can do as useful work, the needs of humanity are great everywhere. We hope to hear from you very soon telling us more about the work and other details. We know that you will always be interested in the work out here and that alone will be a great help to those of us who are actually on the spot. Post just going so no time for more except to send you a heartful of love and every good wish to you and Doctor for 1930.
On the other hand with so much uncertainty attached to P.E.A. work P.E.A. is Portuguese East Africa.
A shorter letter than usual from Christine.
From this letter, my understanding is that the Canadian mission people didn’t want Fred in Angola, but that the American mission people were perfectly willing to have him go to Rhodesia, and that it was the decision of Fred and Sibyl not to go to Rhodesia because Fred had gotten a good job at the hospital in Westboro...and because of who knows what other reasons?
