Kathleen got this recommendation from a teacher in England before she moved with her mother and her sister Ruth across the Atlantic to Savannah, Georgia. It gives us a glimpse of her academic career.

81, GLOUCHESTER GARDENS,
BISHOP’S ROAD, W.
LONDON. 8-1-1910.
I have much pleasure in giving my testimony in favour of Miss Kathleen Farmer. Out of many students who have worked with me, few have given proof of such capacity for well-directed and successful work, and I have formed a high estimate of her powers. Miss Farmer first attended Latin lectures of mine at Bedford College in the session 1906-7, when she was reading with a view to the London “Intermediate” examination. In the two following sessions she devoted herself entirely to Classics, her Latin being done chiefly with me; she also attended my lectures, and wrote papers for me, in Comparative Syntax (Greek and Latin) and at times came to me with her “private reading” in both languages.
At the beginning of the two years’ course, Miss Farmer had but little Greek, and of Latin only a fair equipment; but she had great enthusiasm, worked steadily and well, and by the beginning of her second year had made marked progress. She continued to improve throughout that year, and I consider her now qualified to become a good teacher of Latin (I speak only of Latin, since others have seen more of her work in Greek). Her acumen, brightness, and general capacity, should enable to be as successful in her new sphere as she has been while a student. I may add that what I have seen of Miss Farmer makes me believe her fitted not only to attract and inspire her pupils, but also to exercise over them a a good influence outside the class-room as well as within it.

(Visiting Lecturer in Latin at Westfield College, University of London-till July 1909 Lecturer in Latin Bedford College)

BISHOP’S ROAD, W.
LONDON. 8-1-1910.
Glouchester Gardens. Should be Gloucester. Oh, well, it's 1910, and typewriters are still a relatively new invention.
8-1-1910 - It looks like August 1st to my American eyes, but Margaret Alford is English, so it's January 8. Anyway, in January Kathleen was still in England, but by August she was in Savannah, and I'm sure she went and got this letter from her teacher before she left.
