Annie and WJ were married on October 25, 1884, so they were married nearly fifty years when WJ died on September 1, 1933. That's what I think about as I read this letter.
I would like to write to each one of you tonight but do not feel equal to doing so. Will you therefore please accept my loving thanks for making it possible for your dear mother to be with us so long. I shall never forget your kindness and loving thoughts for us during the long time we have kept her. It has meant so much to us, and what it meant to the dear grandfather I haven't words to tell you just now. Someday I will tell you more about your mother's goodness and never ceasing care of the dear one. The lovely flowers you sent filled us with loving gratitude that we had such loving grandchildren who could think and act so lovingly. Be sure of this we can never forget the sacrifice you have all made and carried out so beautifully. I am so glad you and Aunt Ruthie have had some little time together.
And now dear ones I send you loving thanks. I hope before very long to see you.
Grandma
I do not feel I can ever thank you or your Daddy enough for all your kindness.
I am so glad you and Aunt Ruthie have had some little time together. I think this means that when Aunt Ruthie had to take a break from being a dutiful daughter in Savannah, she went to stay in Atlanta with Will, Maggie, Billy, Kay, and Roger. See
After seeing Ruth I am sure you will agree that she needed a change, even if it meant my staying on here. Maybe the heart issue that apparently killed her a couple of years later was giving trouble now.
