Laura, the fourth of the Five Stokey Siblings, travelled to Woods Hole this summer, possibly in order to see Fred, newly returned from Africa, and his new wife, Sibyl. Now she is back in Ohio, sending a postcard to Kay. I rather doubt that there were postcards to Kay's siblings. It seems to me that Kay, sociable and interested, took an interest in Laura, and perhaps this is why Laura travelled to Massachusetts in 1948 for Kay's wedding.
Or else I'm imagining things, and it's merely that Kay's the only one who kept a postcard from Aunt Laura.
Today we had to drive to East Liverpool to bring our twelve-year-old Rodney to the dentist. School begins, at Hammondsville, next Tuesday, so he must be ready for that. I have been very, very busy since I came home, but I have missed you and all the family. When do you plan to start back to Atlanta?
1. Alma has a post office box in Woods Hole now. Since she has probably already started for India, this makes sense. Four years ago, in 1925, when Ruth sent a postcard to Kay, shen sent it c/o Alma.
2. Today we had to drive to East Liverpool to bring our twelve-year-old Rodney to the dentist. East Liverpool is about 50 miles east of Canton, as is Hammondsville and also Wellsville, where this postcard was mailed. But I don't know the story on Rodney, or who the "we" is that Laura is talking about. All I know is that clearly Laura's life in Ohio was not a solitary, lonely one.
