Dear Aunt Alma,

You asked what I would like for Christmas.  Well, the enclosed [note from Alma: Adv forThe Saturday Review.] is what I would like very much, I think.  I would even enclose the $7.00 in sending it along to you.

What would you like?  Something for the trip?  Or have you been given so much excess gagetry already that you'd like something for when you return?

P.S. The secretarial school is quite fun - that is the people teaching + attending are fun, and the work isn't bad.  Typing is more fun then stenography.

[In Alma's handwriting:]

AG is due in Wayland Monday at 4:52 at Route 128 (after her last class).  She will take Clara and me to S.H. on Friday in the station wagon and Edie will not go.  The Singhalese family - Mr. Samson and Mrs. Mukta Weijesinha are to come from Montreal - due in North Station at 6:30 - I wonder how much late.  The real congestion will be Wednesday and Thursday nights.  We want to leave early on the 26th to be ready to start on the 27th.  Too much to do to suit me, but Lenette has still more.

Alma said in  ...that she was planning to go to New York for the weekend to see Clara Jones (who has a Non-family page on this website) and AG.  If she went, then it surprises me that AG didn't tell Alma her impressions of secretarial school then.  But Alma's note in this letter, with the planned Christmastime schedule, was surely written after the December 3 letter.

Maybe the secretarial school didn't start until after Alma's visit?  It seems unlikely, but the only other thing I can think of would be that AG wrote the letter before Alma came to visit her in New York, and Alma waited a week or two or three to send it along to Eva.  And that seems unlikely too.  So I'm putting the original letter at Sunday, December 14, and that's that.

Later note: Alma sent along to Eva a card from AG in her December 13 letter - but I don't think this letter could be the card that Alma was sending.
Another note:  Alma sent a letter from AG with another letter to Eva:I don't think it was this one, but that may be wishful thinking because it would be such a pain to have to redate this letter.

Another note: AG tells me that the shorthand course was for a potential job that didn't pan out.  Not that that helps with figuring out dates.
