Mrs. Lundeen New Editor For Women
The appointment of a women's editor of the Register-Guard was announced Sunday by Alton F. Baker Jr., editor.
She is Kay Lundeen who has had a wide experience as a reporter and was, for three years, women's editor of the Providence (Rhode Island) Journal-Bulletin. Her appointment to the Register-Guard is effective Monday.
Mrs. Lundeen will fill a new post, a position made necessary by the growth of the newspaper and the community. Ann Connell, who has been Society Editor of the Register-Guard will retain that position. Mrs. Connell has been with the paper for nearly 12 years.
As Women's Editor, Mrs. Lundeen will be responsible for the direction of all news pertaining to women, pictures of women's activities and general make-up of the women's pages, daily and Sunday.
Mrs. Lundeen came to Eugene with her husband and three children in April 1954. Her husband, Ernest Lundeen, is a Eugene attorney. She lived in Portland from 1949 until she moved to Eugene. Most of that time, her husband spent in the service.
The new women's editor was born in Fort Sam Huston, Texas, where her father was a regular Army officer. She was raised in Atlanta, Ga., and attended schools there. She was graduated from Radcliffe College, Cambridge, Mass. in 1940, with an A. B. degree in English.
Mrs. Lundeen is also a graduate of the Columbia University graduate school of journalism. She began her news career as an assistant to Helen Worden Erskine, columnist for the Scripps-Howard newspapers. From 1943 to 1946, she was a reporter for the Washington, D.C., Bureau of the Associated Press.
In 1947, Mrs. Lundeen became the Women's Editor of the Providence Journal-Bulletin, a newspaper with a combined circulation of 190,000. In 1948, she covered the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia.
Mrs. Lundeen lives at 3500 Pearl St.
