LT.-COL. STOKEY, CORPS ENGINEER, TO RETIRE AUG. 27
Lieutenant Colonel William P. Stokey, corps area engineer officer, of 334 Eighth St., N.E., has received orders to proceed to his home to await retirement on August 27, after 32 years' service. He left Monday on an accrued leave of absence which will extend to date of retirement.
Colonel Stokey was born in Ohio, on November 3, 1875. He entered the military academy in June, 1896, from which he was commissioned a lieutenant in the artillery branch on June 13, 1900. On January 18, 1902, he transferred to the corps of engineers, with which arm he has since served. During the world war, Lieutenant Colonel Stokey received the temporary rank of colonel on January 4, 1918, which he held until July 14, 1919.
Major Gustav H. Franke, corps area publicity officer, in addition to his other duties, has taken over the duties of the corps area engineer officer, effective April 16.
