Dec. 7th 1927 Washington City Penna.
Dear Alma
I was very glad to get your letter. I had that Laura had taken a relapse, when John had said, she had called to see him and loocked so well, and had talked to him just as she always did. I can't see what she expected to gain by starting such a report.
Laura wrote me a very nice letter for my birthday. I enjoyed those letters, and I was glad to hear from her. It was the first I had herd from her after she left Canton. When I had not herd from her last summer, I did not know where she was. I was going to ask her to make her plans, so she could stop wih us for a visit if she was going East during vacation season. I wrote to John and he did not know anything, had not seen her at that time. But in the summer we have good roads all improved and a Bus runs from Washington to all the towns around also Wheeling + Pittsburg every hour. But now I would not want to go in a Bus or any car on those hills even with chains. They slip of the road and some accident happens so often now.
I would be glad to have Laura come any time but as we have no furnace, probably our house would not be as warm as she is accustomed to having where she is, in the winter. Have coal fire in dining room, but gas in bedrooms so we turn out gas in them at night but leave it in bathroom all time. But in the spring when the roads are good would be a better time for her I think, and a change of seen would do her good, and she could rest here, too. I think it is rest and sleep that would help her, give up work and worry for a while, just rest. Will close for this time all is well but Cora has a cold I think little Jim's cold gave it to her. Margaret went home last Tuesday but left some of the effects of his cold with us. He had it when he came was better when he left.

The "she" who started the report must be Mrs. Sponseller (or however it is spelled, and whoever she was). Aunt Rebecca said in When I wrote to you I think I told you Laura had called to see John that was the last of July and I was so glad to hear she was looking so well again.
But the last letter (Oct 18th) he said Mrs. Sponseller [???] told him, she had herd Laura was sick, and that her mind was affected. I felt so sorry my heart ached she has been working to hard helping others and forgeting her weakness was not strong enough for much work.
So Alma apparently had heard directly from Laura about Laura's recovery from whatever the health issue was, and wrote it to Aunt Rebecca.

Will close for this time all is well but Cora has a cold I think little Jim's cold gave it to her. Margaret went home last Tuesday but left some of the effects of his cold with us. He had it when he came was better when he left.
