Your letter came yesterday and were glad you had a good trip from New York.
I can’t tell you how lonesome I was for two days, + am lonesome yet but the first was almost too unbearable. Every place I would go I would see some reminder of the children. Shells, pretty stones +c. It does seem dull here without the family.
Tuesday 11th
A week since I commenced to write this letter. Alma and Eva are on a sailing and fishing trip with the Pollock family today. It is a beautiful day and no doubt will have a good time. They invited me to go along but you know I do not care to go on the water. They return to Philadelphia tomorrow expect to go all the way in the auto. We were out to their cottage last week. Mrs. P. came in for us and brought us home again.
I was alone all day yesterday. Miss Hahn and Miss Morris had been down on the cape and came here Sunday afternoon. Miss Hahn has a new Dodge. She took us all out and went to all the Falmouths except one - No. Falmouth. They staid here all night and went to Plymouth yesterday. The girls returned by train from Middleboro. Miss Hahn and Miss Morris went on to Providence from Middleboro.
Alma will leave Monday and do some shopping in Boston and go on to South Hadley Tuesday. Eva and I will stay until Friday or Saturday. Ethel Jackson and her father may come after we go. He has been quite sick.
I wonder if you have found a house yet. I am glad the children have a good place to stay while you are house hunting.
I received a letter from Laura yesterday. She cannot come to Woods Hole as Mrs. Hanson has not recovered from her operation that she can’t leave her. She will come to South Hadley later in the season.
I have not been down to see the swimming since you left. There is no attraction when the children are not there. The girls go every day. It was late when they came in yesterday after the trip to Plymouth.
1. Alma and Eva are on a sailing and fishing trip with the Pollock family today. I know nothing about the Pollock family.
2. Miss Hahn and Miss Morris had been down on the cape and came here Sunday afternoon. I know nothing about Miss Hahn and Miss Morris.
3. She took us all out and went to all the Falmouths except one - No. Falmouth. Google AI tells me that the parts of Falmouth are Falmouth Village, East Falmouth, West Falmouth, Hatchville, North Falmouth, Teaticket, Waquoit, and Woods Hole. No mention of Falmouth Heights. I once asked my mother why there was no South Falmouth, and she said that would be Woods Hole.
4. They staid here all night and went to Plymouth yesterday. The girls returned by train from Middleboro. Miss Hahn and Miss Morris went on to Providence from Middleboro. Alma and Eva saw a solar eclipse from the train - see:
5. Ethel Jackson and her father may come after we go. I still haven't figured out a good pigeonhole for Ethel Jackson.
6. I wonder if you have found a house yet. I am glad the children have a good place to stay while you are house hunting. Will and Kathleen had just about bought a house at this point - see:
I'm wondering if the children were staying in Savannah with Kathleen's parents. There's a mystery letter that from Mama Margaret that suggests that...maybe.
7. I received a letter from Laura yesterday. She cannot come to Woods Hole as Mrs. Hanson has not recovered from her operation that she can’t leave her. She will come to South Hadley later in the season. I think there are some letters from Mama Margaret in 1923 that I haven't even looked at yet. I'm hoping to find out more about Laura's visit, assuming it happened.
