A slightly misleading (unintentionally, I'm sure) newspaper item about Will's trip to Massachusetts.

MEN AND MATTERS.
Colonel William P. Stokey, Corps of Engineers, formerly in charge of the old Second Cincinnati District, yesterday returned from a two months' leave of absence and reported for duty as assistant to United States Division Engineer Charles M. Kutz. Colonel Stokey and his family passed their vacation in the East.

It looks as though Will was taken an extended vacation between one Ohio River job (in charge of the old Second Cincinnati District) and another (assistant to the US division engineer).
The newspaper got Charles Kutz's middle initial wrong. Here's a little about him from Wikipedia:
Charles Willauer Kutz (October 14, 1870, in Reading, Pennsylvania – January 25, 1951, in Washington, D.C.) was an American brigadier general in the Army Corps of Engineers and the longest serving District of Columbia Engineer Commissioner in the history of the position.
and:
After leaving the board of commissioners, he was division engineer, Central Division, at Cincinnati, Ohio, from 1921 to 1928, and from 1928 to 1929, he was department engineer of the Hawaiian Department, and commanding officer of the 3rd Engineers.

Colonel Stokey and his family passed their vacation in the East
This is incorrect, since only Will went to Massachusetts, not Kathleen and the kids. I had thought that Will had included Army work in his trip because of something he said in I think I will try some more places with the Flexway.
But this item says that he was simply on leave, so apparently Flexway had nothing to do with the Army. (My current theory is that it was something that Kathleen's father was working on.) So now I'm thinking that the basic purpose of the visit to Massachusetts was to help Alma to oversee the building of her cottage, later named Fernbank, in Woods Hole. Perhaps he said something to someone like, "I'll be visiting family in Massachusetts," and that morphed into "Colonel Stokey and his family passed their vacation in the East".
