MAJ. STOKEY IN CHARGE OF RIVER AT LOUISVILLE
Maj. William P. Stokey, of Cincinnati, will succeed Maj. George R. Spalding as chief engineer in the Louisville district, to have charge of all the Government construction work on the Louisville and Portland Canal and the building of locks, dams and bridges on the several rivers embraced in the district, it was learned here yesterday.
Maj. Stokes has had much experience in this kind of work, having been in charge of the Second Cincinnati Engineering District. He will arrive here to-day to assume charge. Maj. Spalding, who has been assigned to Fort Meyer, Va., to assist in the instruction of recruits at the citizens’ training camp, will leave Louisville to-night, he said.

1.
This is one of a series of newspaper and magazine items over the years about Will's work for the Army Corps of Engineers. You can find the whole list here:
WILL'S ARMY CAREER
2.
I chose to include both the Friday item and the Sunday item because they contain slightly different information.
3.
Maj. Spalding, who has been assigned to Fort Meyer, Va., to assist in the instruction of recruits at the citizens’ training camp, will leave Louisville to-night, he said.
Should be Fort Myer, not Fort Meyer. The spelling error is corrected in the second item.

So, contrary to initial indications, this nifty job upgrade for Will, to become the head of the Louisville office, is in fact a piling on of more work for him on top of his already existing job, and he may end up right back where he started, as head of the Second Cincinnati office.
