Dear Kathleen -
At first I delayed writing till I was sure you were back in Cincinnati as I did not know your Savannah address, but I suspect that reason is outlawed by this time.
I am so proud and happy to own another of the leaders works, and I thank you and Will very, very much. We are all enjoying the reading of it. Mother Woodside gave me The First Church of Christ S. + Miscellany so I have three of the set.
I also thank you and Margaret for the bulbs. It will be such a pleasure to watch them unfold. I have not started them yet as I thought it would be nice to have them come out about Easter.
You must have had a very happy time in Savannah and we are all eager to hear about it.
Mother Stokey and the girls had such a nice time in Atlantic City. We have not seen Alma yet since her return but expect her over next Sun.
We have had such an open winter that we have kept the Ford out of winter quarters - and use it two or three times a week. It is rather cold riding but we bundle up well.
It is such a convenient way for us to go to Church + the Wednesday evening meetings. The trolley service is poor - that is it is hard to make connections at the transfer point. Usually there is a long cold wait.
We had a very pleasant tho very quiet holiday season. My brother was our only guest and we just stayed at home and read or mended. Mother + I had quite a lot to do to get his wardrobe into repair again.
I am still having treatments but have progressed this far - that I go in to see Mrs. Coxson instead of her coming out here. And I have to walk up quite a steep hill to reach her address! It took me a long time to realize that I could do it - in Divine Strength.
I hope we may hear from you ere long - tho I know it is expecting a good deal.
With love from us both -
(Fred +) Mabel

1.
At first I delayed writing till I was sure you were back in Cincinnati as I did not know your Savannah address, but I suspect that reason is outlawed by this time.
So Will, Kathleen, and Margaret (and the as yet unborn Billy) did got to her parents in Savannah for Christmas, despite there previous decision not to because Kathleen was pregnant - see:
1916-12-02 LETTER FROM MAMA MARGARET TO EVA
2.
I am so proud and happy to own another of the leaders works, and I thank you and Will very, very much. We are all enjoying the reading of it. Mother Woodside gave me The First Church of Christ S. + Miscellany so I have three of the set.
It is so interesting that Mabel, who was a medical missionary, and her mother, who was a missionary (probably not medical), were interested in Christian Science.
3.
I also thank you and Margaret for the bulbs. It will be such a pleasure to watch them unfold. I have not started them yet as I thought it would be nice to have them come out about Easter.
Easter in 1917 was on April 8. Mabel died on May 6, so I think she would have been able to enjoy the flowers.
4.
Mother Stokey and the girls had such a nice time in Atlantic City. We have not seen Alma yet since her return but expect her over next Sun.
The girls are Alma and Eva. When Mama Margaret wrote to Eva on December 2, she mentioned the trip, and that Alma's friend Mabel Watson (who, like Eva, lived in Philadelphia) would be going too. At the time, Mama Margaret thought she would be spending Christmas in Cincinnati with Will and Kathleen, but that changed. Anyway, although Eva isn't mentioned by name, I'm including this in her list of documents.
5.
We have had such an open winter that we have kept the Ford out of winter quarters - and use it two or three times a week. It is rather cold riding but we bundle up well.
So Fred has a car! And he bought a Ford, unlike Will, who bought a Buick.
6.
It is such a convenient way for us to go to Church + the Wednesday evening meetings.
The Wednesday evening meetings suggest that Fred and Mabel are going to the Christian Science church, especially since Mabel is writing to Kathleen.
7.
We had a very pleasant tho very quiet holiday season. My brother was our only guest and we just stayed at home and read or mended. Mother + I had quite a lot to do to get his wardrobe into repair again.
Mabel's brother was Wilfred, who was in college in Massachusetts. I figure Mabel's father was in Africa.
8.
I am still having treatments but have progressed this far - that I go in to see Mrs. Coxson instead of her coming out here. And I have to walk up quite a steep hill to reach her address! It took me a long time to realize that I could do it - in Divine Strength.
Medical treatments and Christian Science. Again, interesting.

This just makes me love Mabel, over a hundred years after her death.
10.
Mabel doesn't mention Kathleen's pregnancy, though she surely knew about it from Mama Margaret. I figure Mabel knew that Kathleen would not be comfortable with it being discussed.
