CAPTAIN STOKEY HERE
Captain W. P. Stokey of the war department was in Stockton yesterday looking into several matters in connection with the diverting canal. The proposed improvement of that waterway, the damages farmers suffered by reason of the overflow and other problems were discussed by him with local people. Captain Stokey also looked into a proposed pumping ground for the detritus to be taken from McLeod's lake when dredging starts there and he and City Engineer Hunter visited the lake and vicinity looking over the scene for a suitable place.

I like to imagine Will discussing the various canal issues with the locals. It seems to me he would be very good at that.
This is a stop in the Tour about Will's Army work.
