In the morning post we received a letter from Alma. In fact it came before breakfast, telling us the good news, that you two children had made up.
So before I start out for market, you shall have a line. We are so happy over this good news.
I am sure you will find this is the better way - just know the past is a bad dream and make up for it by loving one another all the more.
We feel sure you will not have to work so hard from now on. Where the home is filled with love everything is much easier.
We were married a year yesterday; Will stayed away from the office in the afternoon, so we went to hear Tetrazzini. I suppose you have hear her in New York.
My dear I must rush off to market and get things for Sunday dinner.
Will is going to write you very soon.
Wish you could have seen the dear child when he read your letter this morning. He just beamed - really Eva he is the dearest thing in the world. I’ve been busy with house dresses. Have a New Home machine because Mother had the New Home and Will is doing stunts with it. Worlds of love to both -
1. Saturday morning My dear Eva: The envelope is postmarked March 23, 1912, and that day was a Saturday, so it seems safe to assume that this letter was written on March 23, 1909.
2. In the morning post we received a letter from Alma. In fact it came before breakfast, telling us the good news, that you two children had made up. I do wish for Eva's sake that the reconciliation had lasted.
3. We were married a year yesterday; Will stayed away from the office in the afternoon, so we went to hear Tetrazzini. I suppose you have hear her in New York. About Tetrazzini, Wikipedia says: Luisa Tetrazzini (29 June 1871 – 28 April 1940) was an Italian coloratura soprano of great international fame. Tetrazzini "had a scintillating voice with a brilliant timbre and a range and agility well beyond the norm..." and: Tetrazzini became a worldwide name and was “glorified even in food, as in the dish Turkey Tetrazzini.”
There are some recordings of her on YouTube.
3. Margaret and Will She signed it Margaret and Will, but the letter letter was clearly written by just Margaret.
