I wish Margaret, Mama Margaret, and Eva had met. They could have had such fun talking about clothes!

My dear Mother:
Will has been away nearly a week. I promised him before he left, that I would write you, in fact answer all our letters. I have been so lonesome for Will, that I could not take an interest in any thing - besides I did not want to write you a mournful letter, because your letters are always so cheerful, even when you were alone this summer. You know I told you how brave you were.
I had word late last night that our boy would be home tomorrow. I’m as happy as a lark. I have accomplished more today than all the other days.
You dear child, Will and I were away on your birthday I was in Los Angeles and Will in Stockton, it will not happen again, I promise you. I was in Los Angeles three weeks and San Diego two days made the trip by steamer, had a lovely time. It seemed very warm after living here where it is so cool.
Will was in Los Angeles Friday, after his business meeting, he dined with Mrs. Gay at the Hotel Angules and made three calls after dinner. Every one just loves Will really Mother, he is the best boy in the world, but an awful tease, he says it is because he is so happy, in that event he is happy all the time. I have been making over my last year’s hats. I have some things I am saving for a toque for you. I showed them to Will one evening. He said, you will have Mother putting on a lot of style. When I am in the shops and see dark silks, this morning I saw a lovely piece of gray silk - I wish you were near us, I want you to have nice things. You know what I mean, dear. I hope Fred can visit you. I know you will all have a lovely time. I wish we could be with you. Would you celebrate with ice cream? do take some pictures while he is there. Tell him his new sister is curious to see him. I can imagine what you all look like but I am not sure about Fred - I will write Alma very soon. She is a perfect dear to write us so often. I suppose you have had cards from Will on this trip.

So Fred was thinking of coming from Michigan to see his family in Massachusetts? I haven't seen anything about it elsewhere, but I'll have to keep my eyes open for something about it.
