YUMA, Aug. 22 -- Yuma has just finished entertaining some noted visitors. They were Assistant United States Atty. Gen. Lawler, Atty. Helms of the department of the Interior, Engineer Ockerson, who is the special engineer sent here by President Taft to investigate and advise regarding the proposed expenditure of $1,000,000 for the controlling of the lower Colorado river, Captain W. F. Stokey, of the Engineering department of the United States army with headquarters in Los Angeles, Engineer C. K. Clark of the C. D. Company, F. C. Scobey of the Mutual Water companies of the valley, and Chairman McHarg of the Imperial board of supervisors.
They inspected the wier dam and a part of the river in a skiff. The party failed to connect with the automobile which was to have taken them back to Calexico Wednesday night, and had to camp on the desert. They enjoyed the novel situation. Mr. Lawler stated that after the goverment has put the Colorado river under control, the people and interests benefited thereby will have to devise some means to maintain it, as in his opinion, congress will hardly make appropriations for that purpose.
The visitors were entertained at the local United States reclamation service headquarters by Engineer Sellew.

3. Mr. Lawler stated that after the goverment has put the Colorado river under control, the people and interests benefited thereby will have to devise some means to maintain it, as in his opinion, congress will hardly make appropriations for that purpose. "Sure, we'll build the Hoover Dam for you, but after that you locals will have to pay for the upkeep. Maybe your womenfolk could hold a bake sale."
