Alma's gotten a salary raise at Mount Holyoke College, and of course she knows how to spend it.

Dear Will,
We were very much pleased to receive your postal cards today, three of them. Thank you! Keep up the good work. However we would like a letter to know of your plans for the summer. But I suppose you will let us know, when you know about your vacation. Why don’t you ask the Col.? Then you can both make plans.
The cottage at Pemaquid that Alma was trying to get has been taken. I agree with you that it seems too cool on the Maine coast. Then I didn’t care to go so far away. She received a letter today from from Truro on Cape Cod. We can get an eight room cottage for 125. It seems to me from the description that it would be better than the Pemaquid cottage, and more accessible.
Alma’s salary has been increased to $1000. She gets an assistant that she wanted. Edith Roberts who was at Chicago while she was there. They pay her 750 and have only been paying 400. They also made an appropriation of $150 to buy some apparatus for the Botany Department, so she is getting things her own way and is feeling pretty good over it.
I came home last Wednesday. It is pretty dull here after New York. But every thing looks so nice and green it is quite refreshing. Alma wrote to Eva to pack up and come as her lessons are all over except Singing and we don’t think it was worth while staying at big expense for that. We expect Lily up a week from today (Monday) and Mabel some time during the week. They will be here a week, then go to Cold Spring until they go to Lake Hopatcong.
Did you ever send those buckles and pins that you intended to send? If you did they never were received.
We’ve been wondering what a moccasin is. Alma said she thought it was some kind of a snake. If it was I am glad you killed it. You know how I dislike snakes and worms.
I hope you will write a letter soon. With love from Mother.

1.
We were very much pleased to receive your postal cards today, three of them.
We've got two of the three postcards - one to Mama Margaret and one to Alma. I don't know who got the third one. Maybe Will addressed one to Eva in South Hadley, although that doesn't seem likely, or maybe he sent one to Alma's friend Anne Starr in South Hadley, but that doesn't seem likely either. Maybe he sent a second one to Mama Margaret or to Alma. Anyway, here's the one to Mama Margaret:
2.
Alma’s salary has been increased to $1000.
Nice! So the Truro rental of $125 would cost one eighth of her salary, but I'm sure Will contributed.
3.
I came home last Wednesday. It is pretty dull here after New York.
This makes me wonder about how Mama Margaret felt about Canton, Ohio.
4.
We expect Lily up a week from today (Monday) and Mabel some time during the week. They will be here a week, then go to Cold Spring until they go to Lake Hopatcong.
Lily is Lily Love from Canton, .a.k.a. Alma's friend Lil. Mabel is Mabel Watson. They have a non-family page on this website.
Cold Spring - I figure that Cold Spring is Cold Spring, New York. As for Lake Hopatcong, Wikipedia says:
Lake Hopatcong is the largest freshwater body in New Jersey[...] Lake Hopatcong was produced by damming and flooding of two ponds, known as the Great Pond and Little Pond, and the Musconetcong River, its natural outlet. Historically known as a resort lake for vacationing New Yorkers, it is now a mostly suburban residential lake.
5.
We’ve been wondering what a moccasin is. Alma said she thought it was some kind of snake.
This refers to Will’s postcard of May 27, which was previously mentioned:
I saw several water moccasins and killed one in the water with a revolver. Wasn’t it good of me.
