38 Green Hall U. of C.
Feb 7 - 1907
Dear Will:
These small slips of paper indicates my situation. I am financially embarrassed - I have 26¢ of which I owe 22¢ to my next door neighbor for a table tax. The pathos of the situation however is not in that but in the fact that my watch is at the jeweler being repaired or having been repaired and I can’t get it. I have all the vexations of having a watch in pawn. I have been expecting a check from Lil all week but I have not received it and I am getting desperate. I hope you can send a small donation - anything from $1 to $5 will afford instantaneous relief as great as Omega Oil. Fortunately my board and room rent are paid so I am sure of food and shelter. If this were Oberlin I could borrow but the people here don’t do it. I might mention that I had about strapped the only Oberlin girl in the hall before I ventured to write. I owe her the small sum of $2.50. I’ll write a more intelligent letter later. I haven’t time now.
I hope this won’t inconvenience you.
With much love
Alma.

I have been expecting a check from Lil all week but I have not received it and I am getting desperate.
Lil is in the non-family page for Mabel, Lil, Steenie, and Orestes.

Here's what I found for Omega Oil: It said that you rub it on yourwelf and it cures aches and pains miraculously. Despite the name the website - i.e. The Quack Doctor - there were many comments on the entry from people saying it really works and they wished they could get more.
3.
I keep imagining Alma all bundled up and shivering in the February cold as she writes this cry for help, but that's silly of me. Of course Green Hall would have had heat.
