A sister of Papa Charles dies. He still has quite a few siblings, in whom our Five Stokey Siblings apparently took no interest.

1.
Mrs. Charles Buss died at 3 o'clock Thursday morning at Aultman hospital.
According to Barbara's genealogy, Mrs. Buss was born Eugenia Stokey, and called Jennie.
2.
Mrs. Buss was stricken with paralysis Tuesday night and on the following morning she was removed to the hospital.
Not the swift treatment that is preferred for strokes these days, but I don't know that there was anything that could be done back in 1903.
3.
Mrs. Buss was born in Washington, D.C., and was almost 64 years of age.
According to Barbara's genealogy, Jennie Stokey was born on September 23, 1839. This would have been before the father of the family, Pierre Charles Stokey, moved to Ohio. Barbara's genealogy has the death as June 20, 1903, whereas this obituary, from Friday, July 24, 1903, puts it at July 23. I don't know the reason for the discrepancy.
4.
Nine brothers and sisters are living most of whom are residents of Canton. They are Mrs. Frank Ballard, Prof. C. F. Stokey, Mrs. S. A. Kirk, Fannie Lyons, John H. Stokey, Daniel Stokey and Mrs. Kate Donze, all of Canton; Mrs. J. H. Erk of Allegheny and Christopher J. Stokey of Kent.
Mrs. Frank Ballard, according to Barbara's genealogy, was Lida, the youngest of Papa Charles's siblings. Naturally I wonder if Frank Ballard was related to Talcott Ballard, the husband of Mama Margaret's sister Sallie, who was a year older than Lida.
Mrs. S. A. Kirk was Lydia, the third youngest sibling.
Mrs. J. H. Erk was Christine, the second youngest sibling. I thought perhaps Papa Charles lived with her when he was in college in Allegheny, Pennsylvania, and that that was why his youngest child Eva had a middle name of Christine, but this Christine was born in 1856 and didn't marrry John Henry Erk until 1898, so that idea goes out the window, like so many of my ideas.
We've got here three people surnamed Stokey listed as living in Canton - Papa Charles, John H, and Daniel - but only one of them, John H, is listed in the Canton City Directory from 1903:
1903 CANTON CITY DIRECTORY: THE STOKEY ENTRIES
Maybe the obituary was including as Canton residents the people who were living in the Canton general area. I don't know.

Rev. O. W. Holmes of the First Methodist church will officiate.
I couldn't help wondering if O. W. Holmes was named Oliver Wendell Holmes, although it didn't seem likely. I googled on Oliver Wendell Holmes Ohio, and found an obitiuary for an Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. who lived from 1940 to 2023. So, obviously, his father would have been Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr. (Note: Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. the Supreme Court justice from 1902 to 1932 had no known children.) My idea is that Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr. in Ohio was the son of the O. W. Holmes who officiated at Jennie Buss's funeral, and that Rev. O. W. Holmes was not named Oliver Wendell Holmes but that it pleased him to name his son after the Supreme Court Justice with the same initials.

I haven't noticed anything in the letters that we have from around this time about "Aunt Jennie Buss died."
