- February: Laura is authorized to teach in Stark county schools.
- June 13: Will graduates from the West Point, 15th in his class, and becomes a 2nd lieutenant (which is standard) in the artillery.
- June: Papa Charles applies for an increase in his disability pension. (It is rejected.)
- August: Will is sent to Cuba by the Army
- September: Alma, having finished her freshman year at Oberlin, starts a year of teaching at Canton High School, saving money for more time at Oberlin.
- December: Mama Margaret's mother dies, and Papa Charles becomes the executor of her will.
- The US census shows Mabel Woodside, who later was Fred's first wife, in Oberlin, living with her younger sister Frances and their aunt. I don't know when Mabel and Frances came back to the US.
- (Year approximate) Laura attends the Deaconess School in Washington DC
- January: Mama Margaret files for divorce from Papa Charles. I think it is finalized near the end of the year.
- July 1: Will is promoted from 2nd lieutenant to 1st lieutenant.
- September: Alma returns to Oberlin
- January 18: Will is transferred to the Army Corps of Engineers as a 2nd lieutenant
- March: Will attends the Engineer School of Application in Washington DC for a year.
- Mabel Woodside enrolls at Oberlin as a senior academy student.
- December 12: Will is promoted back to 1st lieutenant.
- Fred is working in a watchmaking factory. This started several years earlier, but I don't know when.
- April: Will is sent to the Philippines. Apparently he had some fairly serious illness later in the year.
- June: Alma visits her friend Sara Grant Laird in Ashtabula, Ohio, and Eva graduates from Canton High School.
- July: Alma gets a part-time lab job at Oberlin, starting in the upcoming academic year.
- August: Alma visits her friend Mabel Watson in New Jersey. Laura is apparently working as a nurse in the Aultman hospital in Canton. Late August: Papa Charles gives two lectures at the Teachers Institute in Canton on the Nebular hypothesis. Fred had helped him with an experiment for this.
- September: Laura gets some time off, and goes to see the Hanlin cousins in Steubenville, Ohio. Mabel Woodside is a freshman at Oberlin College, where she meets Fred at some point.
- October: Laura goes to St. Louis, Missouri, to do Travelers Aid work with Deaconess.
- Fall: Mama Margarets visits the Hickses (Provines relatives) in Ionia, Michigan.
- April: Mama Margaret reports to Will that Papa Charles is renting out rooms in his house.
- June: Alma's official graduation from Oberlin, with classwork not yet completed due to the lab job.
- September: Alma helps her mother, Fred, and Eva move from Canton to Oberlin. Fred starts at Oberlin College, and Eva starts at Oberlin Conservatory.
- Margaret Clarke, later Will's first wife, is in Los Angeles, California, becoming a milliner.
- Spring: Alma finishes her classwork at Oberlin
- Summer: Alma starts working on her PhD at the University of Chicago.
- August: Will returns to the US, and visits Alma in Chicago.
- August 22: Will goes to West Point as an Instructor in Chemistry, Mineralogy, and Geology.
- Laura goes home to her family, now located in Oberlin, for several weeks. She is sick with tonsillitis.
- Kathleen Farmer, later Will's second wife, starts at Bedford College at the University of London in England.
- Mabel Woodside graduates from Oberlin with a BA, and goes on to the American Medical Missionary College in Battle Creek, Michigan.
- August: Will, Alma, Fred, and Eva go on a camping trip together in northern Ohio.
- August: Will is sent to Cuba
- November 15: Will is promoted to captain
- Conversions to Christian Science: Margaret Clarke, later Will's first wife, and the family of Kathleen Farmer, who later was Will's second wife. The year is an educated guess for both conversions, but it does seem likely.
- June: Alma gets her PhD from the University of Chicago, and is hired as an instructor at Mount Holyoke College. Mama moves to South Hadley with Alma, but also spends time with Eva in New York.
- This is probably the year that Fred started medical school in Battle Creek, Michigan.
- Eva moves to New York City for further music study.
- April: Will is assigned to Savannah.
- Spring: Fred becomes engaged to Mabel Woodside, and Eva meets Frank Evans. Mama Margaret attends the funeral of her sister Mary Provines Hicks in Michigan, having arrived too late to see Mary before she died. She visits Fred, who is attending medical school in Battle Creek, Michigan. When she comes back to New York, Eva is engaged to Frank Evans.
- June 1: Laura graduates from osteopath school in Missouri, and, after a visit to relatives in Ionia, Michigan, moves back to the Canton area.
- Summer: Alma rents a house on Cape Cod in Truro, Massachusetts for the family. Mama Margaret and Eva are there for the whole time, and Will and Frank Evans, Eva's fiancé, are there at different times.
- October: Frank and Eva are married.
- Fall: Kathleen Farmer gets her BA at the University of London in England.
- December: Laura takes the Ohio state osteopath exams in Columbus - four days of exams. Mama Margaret and Alma spend Christmas with Frank and Eva in New York.
- December 29, 1909 to January 2, 1910: Fred attends a convention of aspiring missionaries in Rochester, New York, according to the Chicago Tribune.
