NOT UNUSUAL.
Professor Stokey Says It Was Hotter Than This Some Other Octobers.
"This is not unusually hot for October," said Prof. Stokey, today. "On October 16, 1897, the maximum was 87, and on October 3, 1898, it was 88. In October, 1899, the maximum did not run over 82. On October 1, 1899, the minimum was 26, and there was a heavy frost.
"The warm weather in October '97 and '98 did not last more than three days, while the present wave has lasted five days.
"I see that somebody dished me up in poetry last night as being fickle. Now, I insist that I am constant. I have constantly told you that we would have warm, pleasant weather, and we are having it."
