There are two pieces of stiff paper, folded in half, and loosely bound together with a loop in the string that's attached to the pencil that's in image #4. Image #2 and image #3 are opposite sides of the same piece of paper. There was nothing on the opposite side of image #1 so I didn't scan it.

I assume that Will sent Alma money for round-trip train fare from Canton to West Point. Imagine the excitement and preparations in Canton! Did Alma and Mama Margaret make a new dress for the occasion? If they did, then did Alma show it off to her Grandma Provines (Mama Margaret's mother) who was so good at sewing? Was 14-year-old Eva green with envy at this adventure that Alma was going on?

The original names on the dance card are all printed out in the handwriting of one person. There was no fear that Alma would be left sitting out a dance! And then some names got changed around. I imagine that Alma - always sociable and talkative, as well as enjoying dancing - made quite a hit with Will's fellow cadets. If she had been a different person, perhaps she might have met her future husband that night, and ended up being an officer's wife. Instead, if any of the cadets was interested, she would have dashed their hopes with, "I'm going to college in the fall to study science." A most unnatural female!
