Ohio Boys for West Point.
Washington, April 2. -- (Special) -- Three Ohio boys were today appointed cadets at West Point by the president. They are William C. Gillmore of Lorain, with Earl H. Noel of Ashland as alternate; Herman W. Albery of Columbus and William P. Stokey of Canton.

It may be that the family saw this item, or one like it, before the letter of appointment came. April 3, the date that the item was published, was Eva's eleventh birthday, and she remembered the appointment felt like a birthday present to her.

So none of the other guys who took the physical examination back in June of 1895 got appointed.Also, none of these other appointees - Gillmore, Albery, and Noel the alternate - graduated with Will - see:I don't know how that works, but why should I?
